Globetrotting: The Rest of Australia

Took a bit of time getting back to this. Melbourne was hands down my favorite big city out of the two big cities I saw in Australia, but I did enjoy the other parts I got to see in The Land Down Under.

The sunrise tour to Uluru was amazing. Got great pics of that. And then the flies came out. Word of advice when in the Outback: bring bug repellent and one of those hats with nets. Trust me on this. I also tried kangaroo meat for the first time. Amazing if cooked just right. I would have started posting from the Outback, but they only had internet in the hotel lobby and it wasn’t very fast. Ugh.

After that was Port Douglas, a gateway city to the Great Barrier Reef. I went on a tour with a small group an hour away from mainland to snorkel. Now, as a writer, I live in my head quite a bit. Snorkeling was one of the few times that I could NOT. I was stunned, amazed and wowed by the beauty of the Great Barrier Reef and all its wonders. Next time I come back, I’m scuba-diving.
The next day was a bit more inland to Kuranda, with its rain forests. Got to see a whole host of the local Aussie wildlife and fed a couple of kangaroos! Again, I planned to start posting from Port Douglas, but the internet situation was also odd, as in data limit purchasing odd. Crimany…

The last part of the trip was in Sydney. Beautiful city. Reminded me of London with some San Francisco and San Diego mixed in to give some verve. I liked it quite a bit, but not as much as Melbourne. Also, I wish I had scheduled a climb of the bridge. Oh well, at least I got my Hard Rock Hurricane glass from the Sydney HRC. Sydney was a great way to end an amazing trip. Australia is definitely worth a return trip.
