The Skinny

Wow, its been a while. My apologizes for the lack of posts in March. Things have been coming up and I wanted to make sure I actually had something to write about. The new PC has been working like a charm, thankfully. You would not believe the simple joy of having a functional computer. Ha! Anyhow…

On the good news front, I’m now well into the 2nd draft of the second Star Brigade book and hoping to be done by mid to late May at the earliest. After that, I’ll review the contemporary fiction novella I wrote late last year before getting a second pair of eyes to review it. Not to mention, I’ll be looking to get a new cover for the 1st Star Brigade book before its release. And once I reviewed the novella, I’ll finally start writing that third Star Brigade book in earnest. That book should formally and openly introduce some really cool sci-fi elements into the Star Brigade universe. You’ll like it. I promise. But I still plan to re-release the first SB book and then release the second one this year.

But one of the really awesome things that happened is that I’m coming up with some really cool concepts for new non-Star Brigade stories. One such story was based on an idea that I came up with last year when I was in Windsor, England. All I can say is that its epic fantasy, deals with knights and magic and has the potential to be amazing. Ha! That’s a longer ways down my writing queue, but who knows if it might move up the ladder?

On the movie side of things, I saw The Hunger Games last weekend. Probably one of the better adaptations I’ve seen. However, I felt that a number of important things were left out. Like the full scope of Katniss’ situation prior to the games, her being the sole breadwinner and her contempt for her mother. Not only that, I never cared for her relationship with Rue the way I did in the book. It felt to rushed and forced. There were way too many moments that would have been confusing if I had not read the first book. No book adaptation should ever feel that way.

I just finished Catching Fire, the second book in The Hunger Games series. Not as good as the first novel, but still well written and engaging. No doubt we will see that sequel onscreen given the monstrous first weekend The Hunger Games movie did.

Speaking of book adaptations, Game of Thrones is BACK this Sunday. Can’t wait. This season is based mainly on the second novel of George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Fire and Ice series, which is very good but also really strips away any lingering trappings of black and white in this world. I definitely plan to share my thoughts on that. Plus, I’m about to start the third book, A Storm of Swords. Its over 900 pages, but I expect nothing but awesomeness. Till next time, which will be much sooner than last time.
