Can you believe that The Avengers film is now only two months away? Crazy! And in a month, Game of Thrones returns April 1st! I swear between March and late September is going to be nerd-vana for all us loyal fanboys. Check the GOT season 2 trailer below.
Anyhow. Wanted to give a quick update on things writing-wise. I’m pushing through the second draft edits of the second Star Brigade book. There’s still a bit of work to do, but its off to a really nice start. I’m thinking that two more sets of eyes should peruse through it before I get it and the re-edited first Star Brigade book ready for ebook purchase. I can’t wait to release all this, especially after my site gets re-designed.
This actually brings up something that bothers me. Don’t get me wrong, I get that writing is paramount and the marketing of that writing can come second once the writing is either done or underway. But I figure that one way to shed the ‘negative’ connotation that comes with self-publishing is to make sure that every aspect of your presence, whether it be your book cover or website, looks legit and polished.
The cover for the first version of my debut book was far from polished, and because of that many potential readers were turned off by my writing before they even flipped a page. That’s not going to happen again.
I also feel the same way about my web presence. Yes, my current website format is fair. But let’s say my book breaks out and I’m now getting more site visitors who want to find out more about my other projects.
Having a site with a generic and default WordPress template will not do me any favors. Default templates look cheap, lazy and blog-like (even though my site is blog software). In short it reeks of unpolished self-published no matter what is behind the book cover.
Just a thought to any other fellow writers. March, here I come!
