Over There

So…

Sunday May 2nd, 2011 was one of the most interesting evenings I’ve had in a while. So I’m tooling around on my computer after doing some more edits to my second manuscript’s 1st draft when I check MSN.com to see ‘An important announcement from President Obama.”

Okay. Curiosity piqued, I click on it.

That’s when I’m seeing news that Osama bin Laden has been killed in a mission authorized by Obama. After over half an hour where the White House was dotting its I’s and crossing its T’s to make 100% sure that they had gotten the right terrorist, Obama then made the announcement to the USA that Osama had been found and killed in a joint mission by the CIA and the Navy SEALs elite Team Six. He also highlighted to the Muslim population how it was Al Qaida whom the US was at war with, NOT Islam.

Wow. I was ecstatic. This was an amazing moment in an odd year fraught with bickering and ineptitude by the federal government. To see us do something right and effectively was just …great So I called tons of people (only getting one) and gloated at how awesome Obama’s victory was. Couldn’t help it. Then my mom called and we gabbed about the amazingness of whay happened.

Now, I know that this is only a small victory in the face of what Al Qaida represents, and Osama is just a big head on a still breathing hydra. However, this has got to be a relief for all those who lost family and friends almost ten years ago in the 9/11 attacks. And thank GOD something replaced any inane news about a Royal Wedding which I could seriously give two shits about. Though Kate Middleton did look gorgeous in that dress.

Anywho. So I’m just about done with my 1st draft and ready to hand it off to a friend of mine who I worked with before on my first novel. Its a bit scary, as he will be the first person not named me to read it. I think his reaction and critique, both which I value, will be a good bench mark on how the story is. I am happy to have gotten the word count just under 199K, though I’m sure there are more areas where shaving can happen.

Will post more updates as I start on some new projects and finish up the outline for the second book in a new series I’m start to prep.
