My new favorite show

I LOVE Game of Thrones! HBO has done it again in terms of creating a speculative fiction smash hit out of a book series.

They’ve done it once with True Blood (based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris) and now have taken George R.R. Martin’s epic A Song of Fire & Ice saga and made an amazing fantasy soap opera full of moral bankruptcy, graphic sex, political backstabbing, excessive gore and familial feuds.

While the show started a bit slowly, every episode has gotten better and better. And it was actually a very smart thing for them to keep the fantasy and magic elements of the series in the background, letting us get to know the characters first before beginning to ease all that into the main story. And what’s even better is how viewers are totally responding. Episode by episode, viewership has increased. So by the time the full weight of the fantasty elements hitshow fans will be eating up all that crazay magic and dragon stuff like ice cream.

What’s even better is that Ned Stark, who would be the noble hero in any other fantasy story, is actually the ill-prepared idiot who’s better qualities are actually turning out to be his fatal flaws. In short, he’s losing in teh Game of Thrones. Who’d a thunk it? LOVE. IT.

Okay, ending my gush session. As for my outline, I wrote a supplement that focused entirely on the antagonist’s story. And ya know what? I’m kinda in love with his story now? Yes, its very separate for the two protagonists’ story. At least in this book. But it works and truly gives a stepping stone to the antagonist’s journey toward darkness. Should be finishing up that outline soon and then beginning to write the novella.
