Game of Thrones, Post-Game #2

Watched week 2 of HBO’s Game Of Thrones. Still a bit slow, as the world is still being fleshed out. But I’m still interested in what happened. Here’s the skinny:

— Dire Wolves not only grow up super fast, but they are the best guardians a Stark could ask for. Bran’s dire wolf ripped the throat out of an assassin sent by the incestuous Lannisters to kill him while he was in a coma. Then Arya’s dire wolf mangled the hand of Cersei’s bratty bastard of a son when he was bullying her around. Damn, I want one!

— Ned Stark is quickly realizing that his brand of Northern honor and integrity don’t mean squat in King’s Landing.

— We see Ned’s wife Cat be openly hostile toward Ned’s bastard son Jon Snow when he tried to bid farewell to Bran. I get that Jon is a constant reminder of Ned’s slip-up, but Jon didn’t ask to be born. Cat kinda sucks for that.

— Tyrion (played excellently by Peter Dinklage) is one of my favorite characters. He says whatever he wants and doesn’t apologize. Also, he slapped the shit out of Cersei’s bratty son like three times in a row. WIN!

— Jon Snow continues to shine as the son who wants to carve his own path since there is no place for him at Winterfell. But as he joins the Night’s Watch, he realizes that they are kind of evil bastards. D’OH.

–The Lannisters continue to be unlikeable, slimy heels, particularly the brother. The sister, played by Lena Headley, did give her character a sliver of sympathy, especially when you see that the king doesn’t love her. Nice to see how far the kissing siblings go to maintain power. At least the Starks (Mama and eldest son Rob) are onto them.

They should keep it up, but give a little more action.

On a writing note, I’m nearly done editing the first draft of my second Star Brigade book, having shaved off 51,000 words and counting. The plan is to get the book down by another 2k to 4k before I hand it off to a friend of mine to give it another round of edits.

Then, I will start re-editing my first Star Brigade book to lower its word count and then start working on a long-gestating novella that I outlined many months ago. Things are cooking! Till next time.
