Eesh, this Southern California end of summer weather has become brutal! Looking forward to getting away from it in a few days. More details on that next week!
As for THIS week, I made a major step toward the eBook edition of my first Star Brigade book. Yes, I’m about three-quarters through the rewrites and have actually gotten the word count to just under 200k and dropping. But that’s not the major step I speak of.
I purchased a block of 10 ISBN numbers! No take backs there. I was planning to do this for a while as I want to own the ISBN my books are labeled with, and of course I want to distinguish between the various editions (Kindle eBook format, non-Kindle eBook format and printed format). One area I’m still debating is whether or not I want to publish them as myself or create a micro-press to publish my own books. Still researching that one. I’m leaning toward the latter option but I’d like to find out all the costs as it would entail creating my own business.
Also I found a few helpful articles on self-publishing around the wide, wide world of web. One deals with a TV writer turned self-published author who experienced tons of success on a shoe-string budget. Read Christiana Miller’s story here.
And if you’re looking to print a short run of your self-published novel, check out this article on 4 POD options.
Last but not least, as everyone knows, the Big Three in eBook publishing are Amazon (Kindle), Apple (iBookstore) and Barnes & Noble (NOOK). Looks like there’s a fourth competitor on this list. Here’s a more detailed look on eBook publisher/distributor Kobo. They are definitely on my list of eBook stores to get my novel in.
I’ll have some details and photos from my upcoming international adventure. Till next time folks!
