As of today, a co-worker of mine is now a former co-worker of mine. And I couldn’t be happier. Why?
Because she and her husband had a dream to work on a television writing staff. And on Tuesday February 22, 2011, it came true!
They had previous experience writing on other cable shows, but due to certain circumstances she was now working with me as a web producer. However, she and her husband (who are a writing team) kept at it, writing scripts and looking for work in the TV writing game.
As luck would have it, a friend of theirs got their TV show picked up by a major cable network. Knowing their pedigree, said friend campaigned hard with the network to get them staffed. After many harrowing and nerve-wracking weeks for both her and her husband, they were brought on board the show. It was fantastic, as she is one of the most positive and genuininely good people I knew at my job. Plus she bakes great cookies. My co-worker will be missed, but it is amazing to see someone who’s hard work and tenacity paid off in Hollywood.
All I can say to that other than a well-deserved congratulations is how important it is to hold onto your dreams. Even if that dream is not career-oriented, even if that dream might seem silly to others. If it matters to you, if your world feels wrong for not at least trying reaching for your dream–then you have to go for it.
If your dream is vivid, you work hard to live it. Nuff said.
