I’m just going to say it outright. I love Fringe!
The show has just hit this amazing creative stride in Season 3, which is usually where most sci-fi shows goes south. For the longest time, it has been rare to find a compelling SF show on broadcast network TV that lasted longer than a season. But Fringe, despite lower ratings, has defied these odds and got better with each season.
Usually when an alternate universe is introduced, the alternate counterparts are paint by numbers evil versions of their prime reality selves. But in Fringe, they are taking time to flesh out the alternates and make the viewer care about them. Not to mention how I love the oh so subtle changes they made in the alternate universe (Bronze Statue of Liberty, Red Lantern instead of Green, ballpoint pens went the way of the dodo decades ago, etc.).
In short, what was once a show close to being cut from my watch list during the first half of Season 1 is now must-see-TV for me every week. And the great thing about this Alternate Universe storyline is that it was all born from one man’s desire to help his alternate counterpart and the calamity that ensued because of this.
Good show, great science fiction, excellent storytelling. That’s all I ask for!
