Updates in Editing and Querying

Its crazy how fast this year is already going. Next thing you know it will be June. Craziness.
On a random note, watched a new episode of The Good Wife last night. This show is just too good to be believed.

Anyhow.

I’m about 55 pages into my first revision of the second Star Brigade book. The goal write now is to trim off as much ‘fat’ as I can in the form of overdescription. So far in the first 6 chapters I’ve dropped around 10 pages. My goal is to get rid of at least 40 more pages by the time I go through the entire manuscript. Then I’ll give it another more thorough review/edit to see if the story make senses and if I like it. After that, then I’ll let others edit it.

So far, just in my first pass, the story works, but there is a bit much of space spent on tertiary characters. However, I did need to introduce these new characters and their world to give more weight to their contribution in the overall story. But when I got rid of some more trivial details, I felt better about the time spent on them.

As for the query/literary agent rundown, a friend gave some edits to my book synopsis, most of which enhanced it. Very cool and caring individual who’s been a huge advocate for my writing ever since he read my first book years ago.

My next move is to get my query letter into the hands of a more professional editor before I start sending it out to potential literary agents. Also, I will attempt at a shorter synopsis (just 1-3 pages) for those agents who ask for that length. All in all, things are not fully in place but they are moving.
