Its been awhile…AGAIN. I KNOW. I suck. Anyhow, I do have some good news on the horizon. I finished the second draft of my second Star Brigade book around the middle of the month and am now having it read by a beta reader to get some more feedback. After finishing the second round edits, I finally got to take a pass at a novella I wrote late last year. It still needs a bit of work, but I still really got engaged in the story. Glad I got a chance to write that at all.
The next big project will be to do my final re-edit of my first novel, STAR BRIGADE: First Renaissance. This will reshape a number of key parts in the novel and remove an earlier section was very ill-received in previous versions of the book. After this re-edit, no more tinkering. There’s only so much one can do to an earlier work before just accepting it as is. But given that I will be launching an e-book strategy in the future, I want to make sure the first novel is more in line with my plot arcs for the Star Brigade series.
Speaking of which, my parallel projects of churning out shorts while editing has been pretty successful thus far. I got out roughly six new shorts over the past five+ weeks, one of them actually a non-Star Brigade short focused on another book series I have yet to start officially. Its been really fun and liberating to better hone my skills and stay within the confines of a word count limit. I’m aiming for a couple more SB shorts that I hope will be part of a future anthology.
Now, let’s talk about a certain anticipated film that came out in late July.
You can check out my full review here. But in general, I liked the movie but didn’t love it. There were a number of Tumbler-sized plot holes that kept the movie from greatness…which was unfortunate. However, given how amazing The Dark Knight really was, there was absolutely no way this film could have ever compared.
Also with the film was the ‘Man of Steel’ trailer. Not bad looking, interesting choice of Lord of the Rings music. But will it get Superman back in the superhero game that has done exceedingly well without him? And most importantly, will this be the first step for DC Entertainment to finally start taking a step in the right direction when it comes to their comic book properties outside of Batman and…well Batman? Time will tell a year from now.
Til next time and next month!
