Just finished J.K. Rowling’s ‘The Casual Vacancy’ last week. My thoughts? I still love the way she writes, and this book was an ambitious first novel after the massive success of Harry Potter. However, this book was far from perfect and had a number of issues, the first of which was multiple POVs which switched quite a bit within each chapter (many times in the same paragraph). That’s probably the reason it took me a number of months to finish.
Here’s hoping Rowling’s next post-Potter fare is more enjoyable and better structured.
With ‘Casual Vacancy’ finished, I jumped into ‘A Feast For Crows’. I’ll admit to have skimmed through a number of chapters plenty of times. But Now I’m reading it for real right before the third season of ‘Game of Thrones’ starts at the end of March. Winter is coming!
Onto some Star Brigade news, I’m knee-deep in re-edits for the first novel. I’m feeling much more confident in this first book now that I’m giving it these new revisions. I’m basically adding lots of new layers to the lead character, his relationships and connections to the team as well as why he is doing what he’s doing. I’m also trying make sure the supporting characters pop more. Its actually been a very exciting and I can’t wait to share it with everyone. More info to come as I get closer to completion. Til then, keep in touch!
