Adele is taking the music industry by storm. My thoughts? Awesome! That girl can sing. About time we start getting back to actual singers who don’t need excessive auto-tuning or a generic dance beat to top the Billboards.
Adele’s first album, 19, was promising, but was a bit too slow on many tracks. Her sophomore effort, 21, is a vast improvement. It has a fantastic and very retro-soul sound to it. But one of my favorite quotes from Adele’s Rolling Stone interview was “I don’t make music for eyes, I make music for ears.” Love it. Anyhow…
I’m getting toward wrapping up my first edit of the second Star Brigade book, with 80 pages chopped off and over 45,000 words removed. I’m aiming for a lean 265-270 pages and a word count of noticeably under 200,000. I’m hoping for the best on that regard.
Then its back to the first book to start getting that closer to a 150,000 word count. We’ll see if that works. Also, I happened to see a contest being held by the Writer’s Digest website for self-published books released between 2006 and 2011. I re-released First Renaissance under another POD publisher in early 2006. Initially I was hesitant, but after some thought I realized it would be good exposure for my writing if anything came out of it. I know I have a quality read and if it leads to getting attention from a major publishing house, why not? The results come in later this year.
On another note, Game of Thrones premieres tomorrow. Finally, some quality fantasy on TV! Can’t wait! A review of the season premiere will be forthcoming.
